Ghosties

What is it about ghost stories that absolutely freak us out? I would guess that a good majority of them aren't true, but I find myself reading them and getting those chills that run up and down your spines. I've posted some good ones on the "big site" so go check them out when you have a chance.

A heart towards God?

One of the things that I'm learning more about is that when we have the assurance of being enjoyed by God, we have the confidence that shakes the kingdom of darkness. This mindset causes us to run to God in our moments of weakness, rather than from Him due to us being afraid of His wrath toward our unbelief or stumbling.

Are we slaves of sin who struggle to love God, or are we lovers of God who struggle with God? That question I believe defines our identity in Christ and how we define our life. Do we define our life based on our current struggles and past failures or are we lovers of God who allows our relationship with Him to define who we are?

When we open ourselves us to the love of God, we have the ability to love God back through every facet of our life. Our love becomes genuine, even though it may be weak and immature. A genuine love does not come from maturity, it comes from a heart attitude of knowing that God loves us as His children.

Anyway, just some ramblings from teaching that I've heard lately and the desire in me to go forward in the love that God has for each one of us.

Abiding in Christ

I just started going through "Abiding in Christ" by Andrew Murray. Wow, what a deep well of wisdom and insight. I'm becoming more and more convinced that modern Christianity has clouded the simple truths of the faith with our human understanding and reasoning, and in the process, we have lost the power that comes with simplicity and obedience.

What's really cool about "Abiding in Christ" is that you can view it online, along with many other books. Click here.

Darwin Award Nominee

Did you hear about the munter who put up his vote for sale on e-bay? He had a reserve of $25. Now, he faces a huge fine and up to a year in jail for violating election laws. I guess he's what you call the ultimate swing voter.

Go Sox  Posted by Hello

Red Sox Magic

For anyone following the ALCS, you know what I'm talking about. The Sox are the only team in MLB history to come back from being down 0-3 and advance to the World Series. Helped no doubt tonight by Jonny Damon's (who really looks like a hockey player or a prof. instead of a baseball player)grand slam and two run homer, the Sox got the magic flowing again. Major props to Lowe for his awesome performance. I almost had a heart attack when their manager took him out after only 69 pitches and put in Pedro "who's your daddy" Martinez. Goodness crikey, flashbacks of last years loss were shooting through my mind and destrying my hope in the BoSox.

Anyway, history has not repeated itself and the Sox are in the World Series with a great shot of winning. It should be interesting to see who they end up playing for NL. My money is on St. Louis, and in that case, the Sox had better be ready for a wicked as fight.

GO SOX!!!!!

Sadness

Don't you hate it when someone that you know moves and you know that you may never see them again?

Props to all of the secretaries out there

I spent three days filling in for my dad, working at his chiropractic office as a secretary. His normal one was out of town, so I took over her duties, answering the phones, making appointments, processing insurance claims, writing letters, resolving account disputes and doing whatever else a secretary does. I've done this in the past to help him out, so it wasn't all that bad but goodness crikey, I don't think I'm cut out as the typical secretary. Most people, when they would call up would be expecting to hear a woman's voice, but my deep bass would pretty much throw them for a loop and they wouldn't know what to say. Pretty funny really.

Anyway, all this to say that I enjoyed that experience, but I think that for now, I'll stick with the mortgage broker thing. At least I somewhat know what I'm talking about with that. :)

Dentist Woes

Well, I just got back from a nasty hour and a half dentist visit. After my last check up, the dentist told me that I have an enamel defect that he wanted to fix. Nothing big or anything like that. Yeah right. The procedure didn't last more than ten minutes all in all, but they kept me waiting while the dentist and his assitant waltzed from patient to patient. I don't know about ya'll, but when your mouth is all numbed up, and you're laying verticle for over an hour early in the morning, the mind becomes very, very foggy and it's hard not to sleep. Anyway, I think they just wanted my money and all, but at least it's fixed.

Moral of the story: check your future husband or wife's teeth (and I'm not talking in a MTM way) before you tie the knot. Dentist bills are expensive. ;)

Count Chocula

I was discussing with some friends on Friday night their reasons for voting in the upcoming presidential elections. One of the reasons that they gave for voting for Bush was that Kerry looked like Count Chocula. I had never sampled this cereal before, so they brought over not only Count Chocula, but Boo Berry and Franken Berry cereal as well. Go out and get some now!!

Thinking like a criminal

After being immersed in criminal law for the past week or so, I've come to the less than startling conclusion that being a criminal defense lawyer would rate down there with being a spokesperson for Mary Kay. Being a prosecuter would probably rate along the lines of a crash test dummy. I guess I just hate thinking like a criminal and hate thinking of ways to get criminals out of their charges. Oh well, such is the life of a 1L.

Heed ALL Bear Warnings

Lesson One: If there are bear warnings posted around a campsite, it's good to heed those and to actually presume that there are bears, rather than think that there are no bears.

Lesson Two: Put food and trash in trunk of car or in an elevated position, as to keep the bears out of the food, and out of your campsite.

Lesson Three: Don't wear clothes to bed that you were in while grilling food the night before.

Lesson Four: Don't keep food in your tent while in bear territory.

Lesson Five: Don't go camping by yourself, especially without any guns.

These lessons combine to bring you the sum total of my experiences at 3:00 a.m. Friday morning. I was awakened by the sounds of a very large animal going through my cooler, which was outside my tent. My mind quickly, or as quick as a person is at 3 in the morning does, went over the above lessons that I chose to disregared. I sat in my tent for about 15 minutes until the bear moved far enough away from the tent so I could run to my car.

Lesson Six: God takes care of his children. :)

Insurance Fun

I'm a wee bit on the gleeful side because I finally finished this log/instruction book from my insurance company. I'll finally be able to get better rates, but first, I had to go through and read a bunch of horror stories of what happens when you drink and drive, get in an accident, and aren't paying attention. It certainly puts into perspective the repsonsibilities of driving and all, it also makes you want to be afraid to do anything while not paying attention. Anycrikey, why is it that girls get better insurance rates than guys? It makes no sense, at least to me, and is one of the things that I would change if I was governor, er, president. :)

Revolutionary or Rebelutionary

Here's a quote from Michael Brown's Book entitled, "Revolution in the Church." It has taken on special significance to me as of late, and I thought that I would share it with you.

"Obedience to Jesus does not give us the right to be haughty and rebellious, nor does it allow for unsubmissive attitudes of the heart. Right attitude will yield action, especially when mixed with Godly wisdom... But right now our focus is on our hearts, our lives, our attitudes, our conduct. Are we really Jesus' revolutionaries or are we merely self-righteous rebels who have found a spiritual outlet for our carnality? Are we truly fighting the Lord's battles, or are we using holy terminology as an excuse to air our grievances and carry out our agendas?"

Isn't it so true though, that we seek to change everything around us by our actions, rather than a heart change that actually touches the heart of God? It's been a convicting truth to live by, and I pray that God shows each of us how to be that spark that points another to Christ.
